I built a system to automate the cutting process for small, specialized aluminum components after an outside quote for the job came back around $15,000-$20,000.
I repurposed an old 3D printer's control board, stepper motors, and power supply as the motion system, and used a Raspberry Pi with a monitor to stream G-code to the controller through a custom Tkinter GUI for adjusting settings.
The system is mounted to a small table saw with a thin diamond blade. It sets the desired width, pushes the material through, resets, and repeats fully automated.
